What I Wonder...

Listen to my thoughts about Lao Tzu's inspirational quote in the video below. You'll also discover a bit more about a favourite place of mine in Yorkshire (England!) - again(!), the video location is my kitchen!...

Ah, that perennial best-seller of an inspirational quote: taking first steps.

So true, so important, so VITAL to living your life, that it's become a bit of a cliche, and I'm going to be hard pushed to say anything original here.

But, an original I am (as are you!), so I will do the obvious in beginning to say something original, I will take - a - first - step...

The trouble with being encouraged to take steps, take action steps, is that it always feels like there's an implicit 'lack' within us, a lack of taking action that's going to lead us to the 'holy grail', to whatever it is that we've been seeking all these years.

But this place doesn't exist, and there is NO lack.

So, let's understand the fact that taking steps is important. Let's acknowledge that we can only get from here to there when we begin to move in that direction. That's a given. Now let's relax, for a while, and let's explore the notion - one step at a time - that what we're really interested in doing in this life is taking right actions, as and when it feels right to do so.

And the best way for us to be aware of what right actions to take is... Well, it's by following the advice of Peace Pilgrim above: to make space of peace within us, to allow 'the still small voice within' to speak to us.

And then the world will be filled with one more human being going in the right direction.

One step is all it takes, too - one human being at a time.

PS I'm writing this just after coming back from a month-long visit to India (the photo above was taken of me in Udaipur) - hence the spiritual vibe (man!) and the use of the Hindi word for hello/goodbye... Namaste

I've also been listening/watching and taking part in Michael Neill's Living From The Inside Out program. And a radical shift is underway in me, a shift away from 'being fixed' and towards embodying the truth that is for all of us: I / You / We... are okay! (Well, we're much more than okay, obviously, but let's take small steps here, shall we! Wink!)

Okay, so now it's your turn to comment, your turn to share.
