My 'Adventure' with Depression
by Annette Watts

This is an inspiring story of using adversity (in this case, depression) to make you stronger. And then to want to help others do the same.
(Story theme: Overcoming Adversity)
I was diagnosed with Clinical Depression, when I was younger.
I battled through for 10 years with the help of prescribed medication etc., then I decided I had to push myself to leave the house. So, with the help of family and friends, I was able to attend TAFE (Technical and Further Education).
Doing so built my confidence and I discovered that I enjoyed studying. So much so, that even before I completed my last exam at TAFE I had a phone call asking me if I was interested in a position with a College.
As soon as my exams were over I accepted the position.
From there my world changed. I started work, studied more, and continued on to become a Corporate manager in the Employment Industry. And now I've recently changed positions to help the less fortunate. (I'm also a facilitator in many subjects.) Yes, today, I stand in front of students and am able to share my experiences.
So now, with everything I have been through, my dream is to speak about my experiences of Depression, and how I overcome my fears, anxiety, and depression.
But most of all I want to thank my family and friends for standing beside my through the tough times to get me to where I am today.
Thank you,
Annette
