Inspirational Quotes About New Year Resolutions...

In this online edition of The Monthly Marvel, I talk about a new year inspirational quotation about keeping resolutions. We discover how a member of the Self Help Collective has set her goal to LOSE WEIGHT. And you can also find out what's new here at SelfHelpCollective.com too, and more!...

And all you have to do is read, watch and share (Recommend on Facebook, retweet on Twitter, or just share your views - thanks.)

Welcome to January 2012's Monthly Marvel...

The Monthly Marvel Online is simply the online monthly edition of the Weekly Wonder with "extras" - hello and welcome!

Happy New Year to you, Happy 2012! Yes, it would very much be remiss of me not to wish you the best of years ahead. I know it's certainly going to be an adventurous year for me as I've decided to 'let go' of as many things that do not serve me as I can. E.g. worrying, and a few other things I may well struggle to let go of. I shall keep you posted...

Funnily enough, though, letting go of old habits is fine way to think about making (and keeping) new year resolutions. You could let go of excuses why you don't find a better job, or why you don't start a new romantic relationship, or even why you don't start to enjoy yourself a bit more.

There will always be old reasons (excuses) why you continue to hold yourself back. But if you don't challenge these old reasons, these old ways of thinking and doing, then nothing is ever going to change for the positive in your life.

And all can be achieved by the 'simple' act of letting go, in this case letting go of excuses.

Anyway, I won't say any more as I discuss a new year resolution inspirational quote in this month's Monthly Marvel video - watch below

Which is why, in my role of recommending one page within the SelfHelpCollective for you to check out this month, it would have to be this one: common new year resolutions (and why you're not going to keep 'em) - enjoy!

What's New at SelfHelpCollective.com

Ah, this is the easiest bit of the Monthly Marvel newsletter to write because what's new can ALWAYS be found at this page: What's new at SelfHelpCollective.com.

YOUR Feedback - What You Say!

One of the best parts of editing the Self Help Collective website is hearing from you - your stories of success, of struggle, of wanting to grow... And that's why I love sharing some of those individual stories here.

This issue I want to look at the issue of goal setting and losing weight, submitted by Meche. Meche committed to losing 40lbs of weight by Dec 31st 2011 - wonder how she got on. She set it as a SMART goal, a goal that you may well have for 2012, who knows...

I hear ya.
by: Sandy

Ok I see.

Recently I found an old book from the early 1900's. Perhaps you'd be interested in reading it, as I think it will give you some ideas on what can be talked about which is not just the standard old subjects.

I found it interesting that few are talking about how one can stay focused and concentrate. The book's premise is that the most important skill is that of focusing and concentration.

There is a free online version of the book. The author's name is Theron Q Dumont and the book is about the Master Mind. Another book of his, he has several pseudonyms, which I think is compatible and gives specific exercises to complement the Master Mind book is free also. Search for Lessons in Raja Yoga by Yogi Ramacharaka.

He has other pseudonyms. He is a prolific writer. My take is that the Law of Attraction stuff was partially inspired by him(my opinion).

But I think he is on to something with how to develop the power of the mind towards concentration and focus. Because the book was written in the early 1900s there may be some politically incorrect usage of terms and words. That said, I think you may just come away with something. Well, I hope so.

Wish you success with your new book.

...Just another self help program...
by: Sandy

I like your videos. I listen to them regularly. That said, what stuck out for me was your comment which referenced that some might think that "another self help" program is not what we need.

I commented in another area of your website that I don't look at "self help" as something negative. If you look up personal development and even self help on wikipedia you will see that there are many similar terms and concepts to "self help".

I think what has happened is that the word "self help" has been overused to the point of cliche. It's interesting that we don't hear as much about "personal development", which is along the lines of self help. (Not sure why)

I say all of this because: I think "just another self help program" suggests an underlying cynical view about the subject which could undermine one's efforts to produce. So, to the contrary, I wish you well with your new project and welcome it.

As far as personal goals, I am working on Day 3 of a web building program (this challenge has pushed me towards one of my "intentions" (a type of goal for me) to find a subject of which I can "devote" time to in order to help others).

My new years eve was spent contemplating the meaning of "goals" and "intentions" , and I realized that rather than thinking of goals I would set my "intentions" and detach from the outcome. Deepak Chopra talks more in depth about this in the book "7 laws of success".

So far my intentions are being manifest and we shall see where this journey takes me. He distinguishes "desires" from "intention" and gives a different way to view this thing called "goal setting".

Thank you for this vlog.

Thank you, Sandy, as ever for your comments. I love reading your comments maybe as much as you like watching my videos! :-)

Re the 'another self help program' issue, I think I'm just trying to come up with something that isn't just another twist on an old subject. I feel there really are too many choices when it comes to self help and personal development, and I don't like adding to that choice. But I DO take your point, also. So thanks, Sandy, as ever!
