Imagine all the people...

"Imagine all the people living life in peace"... Alongside thousands of other baby boomers I grew up singing these hopeful words of peace by John Lennon. Well, I'm still 'singing'!
The 1960s and 70s were my adolescent playground, and that's when my hopes and dreams for life began to blossom. I recognized a place in my heart and mind that could imagine a world where there was "Nothing to kill or die for, No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man, and Sharing all the world."
It was decades later when I was able to really appreciate that in order for these ideals to build in the world, they need a solid foundation. And that foundation must be built by individual people... people just like me... and you. Yes, I realized I must bring these ideals to life through my own being if I hope to see them flourish throughout the world. And if I can't do it, how can I expect anyone else, any nation, or our world to do it!
- How do I live each day, each moment without greed or hunger for something (ex. more time, money, love)?
- How do I greet every person in my life as a respected brother or sister for whom my focus is on helping and loving?
- How do I live in peace every moment?
The good news is that these ideals can be brought to life through holistic personal development. Like accomplishing most things, it takes making them a priority, then focusing, learning and acting on them. Oh yes.... also generally involves a lot of challenges, falling down, getting up and trying again I've found!! But more good news... there are lots of useful self development tools, self help books, great friends and experienced mentors to help on this journey.
To me, the greatest purpose and contribution in life is helping to nurture a peaceful loving world. It's one we've never fully seen, but many of us CAN imagine all the people living life in peace. Can you?
"You may say that I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope someday you'll join us,
And the world will live as one." J. Lennon
