Your Self Esteem -- Your Confidence, | ||||||

A: "A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks." |
Ah, how precious is a healthy high self-esteem and how unnecessary and limiting is the low variety!
How lovely it is when we are not seeking approval all the time (as spiritual teacher, Guy Finley explains).
Still, building self-esteem is a lot easier said than done. Or it can be. I've spent the best part of my life (so far) struggling to build my self-esteem, but I have made progress; it is possible!
Yes, it takes self motivation to remove low self-esteem.
Yes, it takes self respect to improve your self image (or body image).
Yes it might even take a lot of Lego! :-) And maybe it takes a self-esteem test or two to see how bad the problem is in the first place - I don't know. (I do know that self-esteem issues come in the form of many guises - guilt, perfectionism, self-hate, thinking of others too much or not thinking of others enough, etc. - and that you should never take any 'progress' for granted!)
As I said, boosting selfesteem is not easy but it is possible, and the rewards for doing so are great indeed. (Just as long as you recognise the difference between healthy self-esteem and high self-esteem!)
"Science and psychology have isolated
the one prime cause for success
or failure in life. It is the hidden self-image
you have of yourself."
-- Bob
Proctor
The last thing I say here?
Well, you can find more information at our self-esteem articles page, should you need it! Thanks. And if you'd like to share your symptoms of low SE you can do so here!
Now let's see what Achi Amaechi thinks of as the definition of self-esteem, shall we...
Self-esteem can cut across a wide variety of things and concepts. It occurs in every facet of life. It is the force behind most success and failure, the force behind peak performance, successful achievement, living your dream living your world! Self Esteem is the feeling of being happy with your character and abilities. It is manifested in a wonderful feeling of inner balance, grounded on self acceptance and a healthy, comforting self-respect towards you. This is entirely different from self confidence which is deeply rooted in what you believe you can achieve. There are several cases of self confidence acts without self-esteem.
High Self Esteem is knowing who we are and living in harmony with ourselves without needing to have the approval of others. Really, other people's opinion about yourself does not have to be your reality. The definition of self-esteem is that of a life of happiness, of sound mind, of health.
When we are happy about ourselves, not caring about what people say about us, we live a happier life, a healthier one, a more successful one - best of all, we live in peak performance. Happier lifestyle comes from within, it enables happy and relaxed cells, and it controls stress. Happy cells lead to a prolonged life expectancy which means extended period to lead an even happier life! What a great attribute if you can only come to terms with who we are, regardless of whatever any man says of you.
Remember, the life's too short to live other people's life and world. Live yours! It will take courage though, but it's worth living. It's the best.
