Love and Happiness
Happiness AND love? You don't ask for much, do you! :-) Actually, there are many that think that peace, love and happiness are related - i.e. you can't have one without the other. So, loving and peaceful relations with your friends, family, significant other (AND with yourself) are vital for happiness to exist inside of you. That's what some say, anyway. The thing is, is there anything more important than love & happiness? I don't think so. How to achieve them both, though? Well, rather than give you answers - which, let's be honest, I don't have - I've compiled a list of happiness quotes and love quotations (occasionally with my own comments added) to help with your understanding of this subject. You'll even find the amazing Al Green (and Marc Brousard) singing 'Love and Happiness' - fantastic! And that's all. I will add to this page as soon as I've had feedback from you (and others) - yes, I'd love to hear what you think about love and happiness- do get in touch! Oh, I forgot to mention that Kevin Bidwell has some thoughts about happiness and love, and here they are! Love and Happiness - what The Happy Guy has to say...Kevin Bidwell, The Happy Guy, has six tips. And, summarised, they are:
Hmm, I think these are more tips about happiness than love, but then Kevin is called The Happy Guy, I guess! :-) You'll find more from Kevin on his love and happiness page Love and Happiness - what Marc Broussard has to say...I love this YouTube video It helps that I like the music, I admit (an Al Green cover), but I think the video does a top job of illustrating the highs and lows of love & happiness. Do you - let me know? And, for those who want to hear Al Green's version of Love and Happiness - here it is! Wow, what a voice (but the video ain't up to much lol)! And here is a link to the Al Green lyrics... Love and Happiness QuotationsLove and happiness - what they (and I) have to say..."In life, we must
not look to make ourselves happy, but instead, we must strive to love others and
our own happiness will come of their satisfaction." "The
supreme happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved - loved for ourselves,
or rather, loved in spite of ourselves." "Love
is trembling happiness." (That sounds like my kind of love, Kalil. What do you think?) "The
Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something
to hope for." "There is only
one happiness in life, to love and be loved." (I understand what George means here, but I'm not sure he's talking about loving a spouse or partner, but loving a friend or a family member and especially yourself. And life would be tough if nobody loved you, absolutely no-one - even that sibling you argue with loves you! Hmm.) "Happiness cannot be
traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience
of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." (Dennis, you win my competition for favourite love and happiness quote! I think you know you're happy when you notice the little things in life - a bird singing, the pattern on your wallpaper, strangers having a laugh together, etc. - and it makes you smile.) In this YouTube video on love and happiness Laura Love explains Jimi Hendrix great quote, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace." And Laura goes on to explain how this peace can be achieved in a loving relationship. This is Laura's website - Love Quotes and Quotations - and it's worth a visit! (By the way, the Self Help Collective is stuffed full of inspiring quotes and happiness quotes - does that make you happy to know? :-) ) "What counts in making a happy relationship
is not so much how compatible you are, but how you deal with incompatibility." (Hmm, how true - I know this only too well, right now (see my happiness survey).) "It
doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations.
If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the
room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years - we turn on the light
and it is illuminated. Once we control our capacity for love and happiness, the
light has been turned on." (Wow, that is quite profound, Sharon! At least to me. Controlling our capacity for love and happiness is possible and something you can continue to do once started? Wow.) "Of
all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal to true happiness." "Life is to be fortified by many friendships.
To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence." (I think someone might have cribbed Sydney's quote (see above), or maybe it's the other way around? Maybe great minds do think alike! :-)) "Love is a condition in which the happiness of another
person is essential to your own." (I wonder if this is the same Robert Heinlein who wrote all that sci-fi?) "Happiness comes when your work and words are
of benefit to yourself and others." "When
we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and
cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace." (I quite agree! And this is why I've spent the best part of 9 months working on this website, The Self Help Collective, and why I was 95% happy last time I took a happiness survey!) "Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness." "The essentials to happiness are something
to love, something to do, and something to hope for." (Hmm, I think I've read that quote before too. Maybe love and happiness is not noticing when your spouse or partner starts repeating themselves in conversation! Hee hee. What do you think?) "We've got to
convince our egos and our minds that if we want to live happy lives, love is more
important than anything else!" (That ego of ours is a tricky customer to deal with, though. And I'm not a fan of banishing my ego to the back of beyond, either...) "Happiness is spiritual, born
of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires
all mankind to share it." (Thank you Mary for that beautiful thought on love and happiness. By the way, if you're interested in a more in-depth analysis beyond the quote then visit www.beyondthequote.com why don't you! And if you just want to read some more happiness quotes - you can!)
