Facing Fear - How Others Do It!Facing Fear - How You Do It!

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure..."

-- Marianne Williamson

The bad news is... the world is full of fear

* Fear of intimacy
* Fear of spiders
* Public speaking fear
* Fear of driving
* Fear of commitment, etc.

Whatever the fear, someone, somewhere, is suffering because of it!

The good news is... the world is full of people overcoming fears!

And that's what this page is all about - how you, me, everyone overcome our fears.

Real-life examples. Right here. Right now. Won't you share too!

It could be how you overcame your fear of being alone (fear of abandonment), your fear of snakes, your fear of falling, your fear of clowns - even your fear of long words (aka hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, believe it or not!).

Whatever fear you've had, we'd like you to share how you overcame it - see form below.

How to overcome fear - what I say

Now I'm no expert at overcoming fears, believe me, but I do have a much better understanding about what causes fear in the first place! And, by and large, it's usually about childhood fears that were not properly addressed at the time by either parent or child.

Still I didn't get where I am today by not knowing how to overcome fear! (And neither did you!) So I'm going to remind us all about how to overcome fears in general - facing fear, as it were - and then I'm going to get the ball rolling by explaining how I overcome one of my fears.

So... How To Overcome Fears?

In short, taking action cures fear!

Or, to elaborate a little bit, you must first...

  1. Understand what fear you have - recognise it, in the first place! - and determine what causes this particular fear, and what you need to do to overcome it.

    For example...

    Overcoming fear of intimacy is well and truly covered by this best-selling and well-reviewed Seven Levels of Intimacy book by Matthew Kelly

    Overcoming fear of public speaking - that dry mouth, fast heart, sweaty palms, and blank mind feeling - yes I've been there, too, and one solution lies in reprogramming your mind via hypnosis, and knowing the basics of public speaking and the fear behind it also helps too! :-)

    Overcoming fear of driving is simply a matter of visiting the DrivingFear.com website, I'm reliably informed. I don't suffer from this fear so can't really comment.

    For overcoming fear in general, maybe you need to do some 'work' on yourself first. Maybe you need to:

    - Understand the spiritual nature of fear (a la Guy Finley)

    - Use meditation to overcome fear (via MeditationSecrets.com)

    - Believe you can be free from fear (by visiting FreeFromFear.com)

    Or maybe you simply need to read more about how to overcome fears at Henrik Edberg's excellent Positivity Blog.

    The thing is, whatever fear you want to overcome - and check out this list of most common fears, if your fear isn't listed above - there is an 'antidote' to it, a course of action to take. And once you know it...

Then you must...

  1. Take relevant action!

Which leads me, in a rather long-winded way, back to the purpose of this page:

Sharing your 'how to overcome fear' action...

Okay, to summarise:

What causes fear? Who knows, really! It's much important, I believe, to know how to overcome fear. And you do that by taking these 3 steps:

  1. The first act in overcoming fears is recognising we have the fear.

  2. The second act is taking action

  3. And the third act - I humbly suggest - is sharing your experiences below, with the rest of the world. Go on! Show us if you can do it, we can too! Even if it's not the biggest fear you've faced up to - tell us, anyway! And it might encourage you to face that 'biggie in your life' the next time...
