Apoorve Dubey's Inspirational Story
by Apoorve Dubey
(India)
Apoorve from www.theflightofambition.com shares his inspirational story of how he became a writer, of what he thinks about happiness, and what he believes his mission in life is.
You'll find inspirational quotes about life, a great list of self help and spiritual books, and an insight into a man 'on a mission'...
1) Tell us a bit about yourself
I am Apoorve Dubey the author of 'The Flight of Ambition,' I work with Symantec Software Ltd. I received my master's degree from the department of computer science and engg, IIT Madras.
I work as a volunteer for organizations like Akshar Bharti and Kalinga Kusum. The aim of these organizations is to take quality education to underpriveleged masses. I believe your life is a gift that is unveiled when you expand it by touching the lives of others. I am also passionate about cricket.
To be honest, I am a writer by accident. All this would never have been possible, had it not been for a particular morning. It was one of those casual mornings when I woke up late as usual. During our hostel days, the alarm in my mobile woke up the neighbors in my wing but not me. I was a sleepaholic. I rebuked myself once again for waking up late. It was a practice I religiously followed. After that I rushed to cafeteria for having a brunch.
It was there that I met my friend who took me to a house in Velachery near our campus.
This house was full of children. Most of the kids were between 2 and 14. There were close to 20 kids and a couple in that small house. Most of the kids were playing; some of them studying and others kept staring at us. Some of the children wore torn clothes. The kids addressed the couple as amma and appa.
My mind was reeling. I kept wondering why the couple has so many children when they cannot take proper care of the kids. It was at that moment my friend revealed that apart from 2 kids, all others had been adopted. Yes, the other kids were orphans.
It was a shocking revelation that this house was an orphanage. But, it was a very different orphanage to what I expected. The couple themselves had two children but that did not stop them from adopting other kids. They lived like a happy family.
Muthukumar and Kala loved each kid as their own.
The visit to that special house left an indelible impression on my mind. I was touched by the selfless living of Muthukumar and Kala. That inspired me to write, 'The Flight of Ambition.' I was determined to make a contribution in the lives of people around me. That is how I ended up being a writer. And I plan to continue. Writing is a powerful medium: it opens the door to other people's lives; it helps you create a difference in their lives, too.
And so I aspire to build a training and development conglomerate that will shape the destiny of young people.
As far as my own reading goes, I prefer to read autobiographies, management and inspirational-type kind of books. And some of my favorites include:
* Every Second Counts
by Lance Armstrong.
* Wings of Fire
by Abdul Kalam.
* The books by Swami Vivekananda.
* Swami and friends by RK Narayan
* Pushing To The Front
by Swet Marden.
2) Talk to us about happiness list
I believe happiness is a choice.
Never mind if you do not get what you desire
Be happy with what you have
Never mind if you do not get success
Be happy with the effort that you have made
Never mind what others suggest you
Be happy with what you can suggest to yourself
Never mind what people think about you
You are still what you are
Never mind when you are down
Be happy that you can always get up.
Happiness is a state of mind and not a state of possession. Be as you are and you will be happy, if you try to be someone else you will be miserable.
And the joy in my life?
My first book The Flight of Ambition has been released recently. I submitted the manuscript for publication considerations in 2007. The publication process took more than 2 years for getting published. But, I am happy that the book has been received quite well. The response so far has been overwhelming. The appreciation and feedback makes me feel that it has been worth waiting for the release.
3) Share a favourite inspirational quotation.
"If you don't have the courage to walk alone others will not have the courage to walk with you." -- Apoorve Dubey
Life is too short to hold back on what you love. If you do not follow your dreams, who will? One way or the other you must not be afraid to live your dreams. You are here to live a grand life. Yes, courage is to back yourself against all odds even when no one else does. A tiny bird trusts it ability to fly and it flies for thousands of miles at a stretch crossing the biggest oceans and keeps moving with faith in its wings. The bird keeps saying to its wings, "You mustn't be afraid to do what you are born to do."
4) Share a favourite website (not your own)
My favorite website is http://www.vivekananda.org.
It contains the quotes, letters and the complete works of Swami Vivekananda. The writings of Swami Vivekananda penetrate your being as if he is standing in front of you. I find this website elevating. It gives me strength and conviction to follow my dreams.
5) Tell us about your blog/website
My website (www.apoorvedubey.com / www.theflightofambition.com was created so that I could interact with the readers.
This is a website with inspiring videos, quotes, and articles. Also, this is a place where I plan to upload more articles and the latest developments in my life (should anyone be interested. lol).
The website is a medium to stay in touch with friends, readers and other people.
I am happy to say that I have been receiving encouraging feedback and hope it continues, as it it allows me to improve the website.
