Adversity Inspirational Quotes

by Steve M Nash
(Brockholes, W Yorskhire, UK)

Weekly Wonder Online: 42

This is the online archive of The Weekly Wonder. And this (full-length) edition discusses inspirational quotations about adversity (or setback) from several authors, in both text and video form.

And you can receive a shorter version of the Weekly Wonder newsletter, sent to you by email, by subscribing - see below.

Zig Ziglar wonders...

"It's not the situation, but whether we react (negative) or respond (positive) to the situation that's important."

More Adversity Inspirational Quotes...
"In every difficult situation is potential value. Believe this, then begin looking for it."
-- Norman Vincent Peale

"Adversity has the same effect on a man that severe training has on the pugilist: it reduces him to his fighting weight."
-- Josh Billings

"If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you got a problem. Everything else is inconvenience."
-- Robert Fulghum

"I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much."
-- Mother Teresa

What I Wonder...

Listen to my thoughts about adversity in the video below. You'll also discover a bit more about a favourite place of mine - this time my home-based office (erm)!...

(Please feel free to comment - either at YouTube or below. Thank you.)

Hmm, well as I say in the video, adversity pretty much comes with the 'gig' that is life. It's probably impossible to live a life that does not, somewhere along the line, consist of some setback or other.

Even the most famous, successful people you can think of right this minute... I bet, if you try hard enough, you can also think of some adversity that they had to overcome.

In fact some might argue - like Al Weatherhead in his book, The Power of Adversity - that adversity is the making of man (or woman).

So, I talk (in the video) of adversity in areas like love (e.g. the end of a relationship, the death of a spouse, or even being unable to find a partner in the first place), like adversity in health (how would you respond to learning that you had a life-threatening disease?) and adversity can affect us in our own personal security.

Adversity can come to us, in many guises throughout our lives.

My own adversity right now - and the situation that stimulated my sharing of these adversity inspirational quotations in the first place - is a work-related adversity, namely that my business is too dependent on the vagaries of the Google search algorithm. (One of my main sites, and a website that provides my business with a large portion of its income - TextMeFree.com - seems to have 'disappeared' from Google.)

So I now need to respond to this new situation I find my business in - respond, and NOT react.

(And worse things might have happened to me, lets not forget!)

So what do YOU think about adversity, then?...

Do you agree, like I do, with the essence of the message that the small collection of adversity inspirational quotes seem to be saying?

Do you agree that it's NOT WHAT happens, but HOW YOU RESPOND to what happens that's important?

That adversity might actually be of long-term benefit to you?

That you CAN (and will) deal with the cards that life has just dealt you?

Is this how YOU respond to adversity?

Be honest, now. We all know how we're supposed to respond - do like the quotes say, and all that - but do we actually DO this, when our time comes to be tested?

Y'know, I'd love to know your thoughts on this, I really would...

What YOU wonder?...

Yes, I'd love to know your thoughts on any of these inspirational quotes about adversity or setbacks. and about how you actually respond to adversity... You can leave comments below! :-)

Thanks for reading,
Steve

PS Thankfully this self help site - this one, SelfHelpCollective.com - goes from strength to strength, and is now even more popular on Google - hoorah!!! :-) It was created and conceived using a technology (and site building philosophy) called SBI!, though, so I'm not surprised it's still doing well. That philosophy summarised: give people what they want, based on your own passions and interests, and do so with YOUR own individual voice

If you're at all wondering whether SBI! might be able to help you create your own very helpful website - even if you know nothing about building websites - then please check out my free guide to SBI! and all will be made clearer to you!

PPS Oh, now please comment, please have your say - thank you!

Mr Peale, I've got to cry first...
by: Sandy

Usually in adversity, my emotions get the best of me. I must admit at first I sulk and question "why me? Sometimes I get angry, other times I withdraw.

After a couple of days I reframe the issue. I ask questions? What is the lesson in this? What things can I do now? what are the pros and cons of my plan? what happens if I do nothing?

As time goes on I really examine the issue and when I'm objective I do see there is a positive side to the situation.

I remember once losing most of my hair in a preventable situation. After the initial anger and shock and with some intervention I found a creative style. I was hired for an artistic related job and I'm sure it was the "hairdo".

When things happen now, I have a little pity party, then seek the lessons, look at the issue from another perspective, make adjustments, take action and wait for the miracle. The less I think of outcomes the better.
