A Living Tribute to My Mom

Rick Szczepanski tells of his mom's lifetime struggle against Multiple Sclerosis and how it ultimately inspired him to create a foundation in her name.

When I was one year old, my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. My mom always took the time to share a smile, create a delicious meal and talk to us despite her pain and suffering. And this was when MS was not well known to doctors nationwide.

My mom courageously fought MS for 38 years.

As a living tribute to an "amazing lady" I created the Mary J. Szczepanski "Never Give Up" MS Scholarship Foundation. We went National in 2009 to every U.S.A. high school to create the opportunity for seniors to raise funds and awareness for this disease of the nervous system.

Our 1st National recipient was from Christoval High School in Christoval, Texas. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, our goal was reached as we awarded Brittany Lombrana, $1,000 for college expenses.
